Mx5 noisy differential. I got a new boot for on top of the tunnel around the gearstick adjusted the lash and put a zorst on plus some good speakers job done. When they drained the diff oil they could also see particulates in the oil. The engine ,gearbox and differential, in other words the whole drive train, all sit on a frame on the MX5, almost like an old style chassis. As the other poster said is the oil level in the diff OK. Not overly noticeable with roof down but a real pain with roof up. The problem is noise that seems to be coming from the rear end, which I would love to diagnose and fix.
